BMW's M division hoonigans still insist that the 2011 M3 pickup was just an April Fool joke - never mind that there is video footage of the thing out on the public roads.

(Our theory is that the M guys built it to prove that it would work but that the suits threw a major wobbly when they found out - it just didn’t fit the image BMW was trying to cultivate!)

STREET-DRIFTING

Nevertheless, the idea struck a chord with some less-uptight members of the motorsport fraternity, convincing them to convert this E46 driftmobile into a bakkie.

We don't know who they are or where this footage was shot, but the car is emblazoned with the logo of Martelli Racing, a well-known supplier of go-fast goodies in Bologna, so this gnarly street-drifting action probably happened somewhere in northern Italy – which is probably the only place in Europe they could get away with it.
