Sealy, Texas - This, fellow speed freaks, is officially the world's fastest convertible.
On 25 March, this Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, driven by Brian Morre of the Ford Performance Racing School and timed by independent speed testing company Racelogic, set a new world record for open-top sports cars on the 4.6 kilometre main runway at the Lemoore Naval Air Station in California, with a top speed of 427.4km/h.
It beat the previous mark, set by a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse, by more than 17km/h, to join its coupé sibling, the Hennessey Venom GT, which set a world record for a production car of 435.3km/h at the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral in 2014 - a record that still stands.
Company founder John Hennessey said: "2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Hennessey Performance - I thought this would be a special way to celebrate 25 years of making fast cars faster!"
The Venom GT has a seven-litre twin turbo V8 producing a claimed 1070kW at 7200 revs and 1750Nm at 4200rpm, driving the rear wheels via a six-speed Ricardo manual gearbox. It'll blast off from 0-100 in less than 2.4 seconds and reach 320km/h in less than 13 seconds.
