.

A BMW sedan comes apart at the seams in A Good Day to Die Hard.

Director John Moore's action movies are known for being hard on cars, and his fifth instalment of the Die Hard series, with Bruce Willis reprising his role as wise-cracking New York detective John McClane, certainly lives up to that reputation.

In one of the big set pieces (not the whole movie, just one scene!) he wrote off a mind-boggling 132 cars, including a Lamborghini and a number of Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUVs, which he got for nothing from the makers.

Oh, and according to Moore, "another 518 required a lot of work".

Even with the free Gelandewagens, that one scene cost $11 million (R98 million) to film. We'll have to wait until the film goes on circuit in South Africa to see whether it was worth it - but, in the meantime, check out how that scene was shot.
