Port Shepstone - An unusual motoring event will take place on the KZN South Coast this weekend.

On the weekend of May 30 and 31, Gas Magazine will team up with the Dezzi Raceway in Port Shepstone to present a one-of-a-kind motoring festival.

From full circuit drifting and extreme bike stunts, to foot massages and a pop-up cinema – the action-packed line-up at the Gas Motorshow will aim to thrill.

The rubber burning action will get under way with South Africa’s current SupaDrift championship point leader Jim McFarlane.

He and a select guest list of Africa’s top drifters will tear up the tar with a high-speed tandem drift show.

Their antics will go a leap further by inviting fans to step into the cockpit for a ride on a professional drift track – an experience usually reserved for drivers or VIPs.

SPIN STUNTING

Not to be outdone, adrenalin motorsports company XS Promotions and its international stuntmen, will show off their own whiplash brand of spin stunting.

And if you’ve never seen or heard of motorised trike drifting, you’ll not want to miss Hooligan Drift Trikes, from Joburg, in action .

While the track boils, the sky will be alight with motorcycles.

South Africa’s The Le Riche Brothers (currently ranked second and fourth in the US) will show their extreme bike trial and stunt duo skills alongside XDL Stunts’ world-renowned bike performance display.

Off the track the Wicked Dips Show ‘n Shine and Iasca Dyno and Sound Off, presented by The Powerflow Exhaust Zone, will allow fans to get up close to hundreds of the most beautiful cars from around the province – all vying for top eye and ear candy honours.

Supercar club IBV will provide the connoisseur’s touch with 20 of KZN’s best supercars on display.

FUN FOR THE KIDS

To keep the young ones entertained Epic Go Karting will be laying on a full outdoor karting track alongside mini radio controlled drift cars by RC Drifting and racing simulators by TGN Simulators to give kids (and dads) a feel of what it’s like to slide and drive.

A massive kids’ action zone – featuring a climbing wall, gyro, rodeo bull and loads of inflatables – will burn up any extra energy.

To complete the family fun, the Gas Motorshow Popup Cinema seats 75 people, and is where young and old can enjoy blockbusters including The Fast and the Furious and Gone in 60 Seconds.

For moms (and dads if you like) a spa will be giving foot massages, pedicures and kids pampering such as face painting and glitter tattoos.

Tummies will be taken care of by a full food and catering suite, including a Spur pop-up shop and a celebrity visit.

Finally, for those most interested in man versus machine, South Africa’s strongest men will race against the clock to pull 5 tons of cold steel in the Strongman contest.

“We have a serious passion for motoring at Gas Magazine,” said event organiser Prethiven Naidoo.

“The Gas Motorshow brings to life the stories we’ve written about on our pages.” -Independent on Saturday
