Bobby Brown was curious about Morne Nurse’s emotional state and what he’d gone through to find his little princess Zephany after she was abducted.

So I had lunch with Morne Nurse a few weeks ago.

And wow, what a guy.

I was really curious about how this man is holding up, his emotional state and what he’d gone through to find his little princess after she was abducted from Groote Schuur hospital nearly 20 years ago.

There are many strange and questionable things about this case, like the fact that the suspect managed to fool her family and her abusive husband about having given birth.

Now I’ve never been pregnant myself, maar nou hoe die f**?(but how the f***)

How dof (dumb) would you have to be to have your wife rock up with a newborn and then believe it’s hers?

These are all questions Nurse is grappling with.

This is the man who never gave up hope of one day finding his daughter. When he met Zephany, who was actually raised nearby and attended the same school as his younger daughter, he pursued it like a crazed private detective.

He told me that when he met Zephany (who was of course going under a different name), the bond between them was immediate, confusing and undeniably electric.

The bond between a father and his daughter is an amazing thing, right?

Nurse and I talked about many things, much of it being sub judice, while the rest are just the thoughts of two guys expressing their grief and surprise at events.

He mentioned to me that he later discovered that he and Zephany would often use the same tuck shop, or visit the same beaches at around the same times.

That means there’s a very good chance they may actually have been in each other’s proximity, without knowing it.

I also admire his restraint. I am not sure I would be able to look the woman who allegedly took my baby in the eye so calmly.

Nurse didn’t want to reveal much about Zephany, just saying she is learning to deal with all that’s happening to her at a very delicate time in her life.

I’m sure none of us can imagine what she is going through.

Sadly there’s another more recent story like this, ironically involving a woman who gave her name as “Stephanie.”

She befriended Juanita Muller in the maternity ward of Worcester Hospital last week Thursday.

Muller was recovering after having given birth prematurely to baby Sergio Strydom.

Moments later, “Stephanie” disappeared with the baby, managing to avoid security guards in the process.

Then of course there are all the stories of abducted, neglected, abused and trafficked children we never get to hear about.

It’s a strange world we live in where kids are treated in this way.
