The African Union saluted the Kenyan people for holding successful and peaceful elections, AU commission chairwoman Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said on Monday.
“The AU Commission and indeed the people of the continent are proud of the achievements of the Kenyan people, and are certain that you will continue to maintain calm and peace,” Dlamini-Zuma said in a statement.
The AU congratulated president elect Uhuru Kenyatta on his victory and all candidates and parties who contributed to democratic process running its course in the East Africa country.
Kenyatta was declared the winner on Saturday with 50.07 percent of the vote. His opponent Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who received 43.31 percent of the vote, reportedly intended approaching the country's Supreme Court, alleging large-scale vote-tampering took place. - Sapa
