Gisenyi, Rwanda - Belgium's Foreign Minister Didier Reynders arrived Saturday in Rwanda to discuss conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which Kigali is accused by the UN of supporting.
Reynders began his two-day visit in the town of Gisenyi, in Rwanda's northwest region bordering DRC, the latest leg of a regional tour.
He is due to visit a transit center where thousands of Congolese refugees fleeing violence have arrived in recent months.
A United Nations report in June accused high-ranking Rwandan officials of backing a rebellion Ä known as M23 Ä in DRC.
Rwanda strongly denies the UN allegations and has in turn accused the Kinshasa government of backing Rwandan Hutu rebels, who also operate in eastern DRC and oppose President Paul Kagame.
Reynders arrived in Rwanda after four days in DRC, where he stressed the importance of “no interference” in the region, a message he said he would repeat to Kigali. - Sapa-AFP
