Gaborone - Two Botswana men have been sentenced to three lashes each and a fine of 1500 Pula for unlawful possession of zebra meat, the official Daily News reported on Thursday.

Isaiah Kangura and Monei Tukamone from Etsha 1, near Maun, were found with meat from zebra they were suspected to have killed without a licence, in the process contravening the Wildlife Act, the Gumare Court heard.

The two had to pay the fine before April 5, for face six months in jail.

Before sentencing, Magistrate Mmoloki Sibanda said he was worried about the increase in wildlife killing in the Okavango, and that this was depleting the stock of wild animals.
