A Cape Town family on an across-Africa adventure have been held up and stripped of their crucial expedition gear in Zambia.

Andrew and Marie-Louise Kellett, from Claremont, set off early last month on a five-month “African Odyssey” with their children, Camdyn, 11, and Summer-Ann, seven. The family have been documenting their experiences on a weekly blog – Africa Through Their Eyes.

On Monday, a knife-wielding gang of three accosted the family on a dirt road near the Victoria Falls.

Andrew Kellett said: “We were on a dirt road about 2km off the main tar road to the falls when we stopped at a viewing point. Three masked men… attacked the vehicle, dragging us out and demanding money.

'They roughed us up and took our cash, camera and video equipment, GPS, inverter and compressor, cellphones and more. None of us was seriously injured. They deflated the tyres and took our keys, but I had a spare set… it will be hard to document our trip.”
