Cairo - Libyan rebels have denied reports of the arrest of Moussa Ibrahim, the spokesman of the country's fugitive leader Muammar Gaddafi, broadcaster Al Arabiya reported on Saturday.
A pro-rebel television station reported that Ibrahim, disguised as a woman, was captured near the coastal city of Sirte, the scene of more than two weeks of fighting.
A statement from the rebels' Transitional National Council said only some of Ibrahim's family members were captured, and search for him was still under way, according to Al Arabiya.
Ibrahim reportedly fled the capital Tripoli when rebel forces fighting Gaddafi troops entered the city in August.
He has been sending messages through a pro-Gaddafi broadcaster to loyalists to keep fighting the “traitors.”
The conflict in Libya began in February after anti-government protesters sparked a government crackdown. -
