An election official reads a copy of The Standard newspaper while waiting for election results to be announced at the National Tallying Center, in Nairobi.

Nairobi - A Kenyan High Court on Friday rejected a petition by civil rights groups who said vote counting in the general election should be halted because of a lack of transparency.

The court said it did not have jurisdiction to intervene in the case.

The election commission said it is still aiming to release final results in the presidential race later on Friday, as vote counting continues. - Sapa-dpa
