Algerian troops are working to secure and clear up the gas plant where attackers kidnapped and killed dozens of foreign workers.

One security official has suggested at least 81 people died, including captives and attackers.

Reports say soldiers have also found and captured alive five of the hostage takers. The government had earlier said they had all been killed in the final assault.

Al Jazeera's Jamal El Shayyal reports.
