Kinshasa - The presidents of DR Congo and Rwanda, currently at odds over Kinshasa's allegations that Kigali is supporting a rebellion in Congo's eastern Kivu region, may meet on the sidelines of an upcoming summit, an official said Friday.

A meeting between the Democratic Republic of Congo's Joseph Kabila and Rwanda's Paul Kagame at the African Union summit opening Sunday “is not scheduled, but is not ruled out either,” a source in Kabila's office said.

Kabila's government has accused high-ranking officers in the Rwandan military of supporting a rebellion by soldiers who mutinied from DR Congo's regular army, echoing the findings of a UN panel of experts who said Rwanda was supplying arms and fighters to the rebels.

Rwanda has denied involvement and in turn accuses Kinshasa of renewing cooperation with Rwandan Hutu rebels who have been based in eastern DR Congo since the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called Wednesday for the two presidents to look for ways to resolve the crisis.
