A 56-year-old Dutch tourist died of dehydration after being stranded without petrol for almost two weeks in a remote part of Namibia, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) reported.
Namibian police found Jan Snel and his wife, Marie, 55, near the remote Brandberg Mountains in northwestern Namibia on Friday following a large-scale search with SOS International, a Dutch-based emergency service for tourists.
The couple apparently ran out of petrol about two weeks ago and hoped that somebody would pass by, but no help turned up, the NBC said on Friday night.
Snel died of dehydration 48 hours before the couple were found. His wife was "in a state of disorientation and dehydration".
The couple arrived in Namibia last month and rented an off-road vehicle in Windhoek for their trip. They failed to return the vehicle on May 5 before their scheduled flight back home last Sunday. - Sapa-AFP
