Johannesburg - The Economic Freedom Fighters wished Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe a happy 90th birthday on Friday.

“President RG Mugabe's birth has been a symbol of Africa's resistance against colonial pressure,” the EFF said in a statement.

“He has remained committed to his people and the sovereignty of their economy.”

The party said it would celebrate Mugabe as a stalwart of all things “prosperous” in Africa.

The EFF thanked the people of Zimbabwe for standing behind Mugabe and called for sanctions against the country to be lifted.

Mugabe is Africa's oldest leader. He has ruled the country since its independence from Britain in 1980.
