Yola, Nigeria - Officials say the latest flooding in Nigeria has killed at least 11 people.

Hassan Mijinyawa, a spokesperson for Taraba state, said on Monday that those killed came from the Karim Lamido area of the state. He said the dead included university students serving required youth service time after their graduation.

Mijinyawa said the flooding came after neighbouring Cameroon released water from a dam.

Officials say flooding in neighbouring Adamawa state, also blamed on the water release from the dam, has killed at least 15 people in recent days.

Nigerian emergency management officials say Cameroon alerted Nigeria before opening the dam.

Nigeria also is experiencing its annual rainy season.
