Former MDC-T minister dies

Harare - A former MDC-T minister in the now-defunct Zimbabwean unity government, Thamsanqa Mahlangu, has died.

Mahlangu passed away in a private hospital in Zimbabwe’s second capital city, Bulawayo, on Monday morning after a long battle with cancer.

He was the deputy minister for youth development, indigenisation and empowerment during the time - 2009 to 2013 - when a shaky coalition government was in place.

At the time of this death he the member of parliament for Nkulumane (MDC-T) in Bulawayo as well as the party’s deputy national organising secretary.

“The MDC family, has once again been plunged into mourning following the passing on of Honourable Thamsanqa Mahlangu, who was our deputy national organising secretary as well as the member of parliament for Nkulumane in Bulawayo,” the MDC-T’s national spokesperson Obert Gutu said in a statement on Monday.

“Honourable Mahlangu was a fearless and committed fighter for democratic change in Zimbabwe. He was also a founder member of the party and at one time he served as the party’s chairman of the Youth Assembly. We have lost a committed grassroots mobiliser who was always ready to lead from the front.”

Mahlangu is survived by his wife Brenda Zaranyika and two sons. The MDC-T party said burial arrangements would be announced soon.
