Cairo -

Libya said that there is no reason not to try Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in the western city of Zintan, where he is currently being held, local media reported Tuesday.

The report comes after the Libyan representative to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Ahmad Al Jehani, said the trial will begin in September.

The deputy president of Libya's National Congress, Juma Atiqa, said that the son of slain leader Moamer Gaddafi was accused of crimes that concerned all of Libya, the independent Solidarity Press news agency reported.

He added that Gaddafi would be given a fair trial and all his legal rights in defending himself against the charges would be upheld.

Libya has been resisting pressure from the ICC to hand Gaddafi over for trial on charges of crimes against humanity stemming from violence related to the country's 2011 uprising against his father. - Sapa-dpa
