Warning! Graphic Content - At least six women were killed when soldiers, allegedly backing Ivory Coast's contested president Laurent Gbagbo, opened fire on female protesters in Abidjan. The incident took place as thousands took part in an all-women march, demanding the departure of Laurent Gbagbo. Footage posted online shows women waving branches in the air in protest as set of successive booms is heard. The crowd of hundreds scatter, then the cameraman pans over the collapsed bodies of at least four women.

The incident has prompted a shockwave of criticism. The spokesman for Ivory Coast's military denied the army was involved. He read a statement on state TV late on Friday, calling it a lie spread by the international media.
