Johannesburg -

African National Congress Women's League president Angie Motshekga has launched a petition calling for the release of schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria, the SABC reported on Sunday.

The petition would be delivered to Nigeria later this month by a delegation from the ANCWL and the South African government.

More than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped from a school in Chibok in the north-eastern state of Borno on April 14.

The Boko Haram group claimed responsibility for the abductions.

Motshekga said the purpose of the petition was to indicate South Africa's support for Nigeria and its desire for the girls' release. - Sapa
