Harare - Robert Mugabe has mocked America’s legalisation of gay marriage by vowing to travel to the White House and propose to Barack Obama.

During an interview on national radio, the Zimbabwean president, pictured, joked that he would “get down on my knee and ask for his hand”.

Mugabe, who is known for his extreme anti-gay views, was responding to the US Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday which legalised same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

The 91-year-old said: “Since President Obama endorses the same-sex marriage, advocates homosexual people and enjoys an attractive countenance, thus if it becomes necessary I shall travel to Washington DC, get down on my knee and ask for his hand.”
