Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe addresses the 66th United Nations General Assembly at the UN headquarters, in New York.
New York - Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on Thursday accused the International Criminal Court of turning a “blind eye” to crimes by Western leaders.
Mugabe, 87, told the United Nations General Assembly that the ICC has no credibility in Africa.
The court “seems to exist only for alleged offenders of the developing world, the majority of them Africans”, he said.
“The leaders of the powerful Western states guilty of international crime, like Bush and Blair, are routinely given the blind eye. Such selective justice has eroded the credibility of the ICC on the African continent.”
George W. Bush, the former US president, and former British prime minister Tony Blair have faced criticism from activists for their role as architects of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
The ICC has issued charges against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for genocide in Darfur. Libya's former strongman Muammar Gaddafi is also wanted by the ICC. African countries regularly criticise the focus on their continent.
Mugabe also blasted the Nato air raids in Libya, justified by UN resolutions on protecting civilians after Gaddafi’s crackdown on protests.
“Yesterday, it was Iraq and Bush and Blair were the liars and aggressors as they made unfounded allegations of possession of weapons of mass destruction,” the Zimbabwean leader said.
“This time it is the Nato countries (that are) the liars and aggressors as they make similarly unfounded allegations of destruction of civilian lives by Gaddafi.” - Sapa-AFP

@Anonymous. Let me tell you there are plenty of whites getting tenders. go to a tender briefing session and see the companies.

@ Blade123 - Are you really Malema in disguise? Lol, have you even heard of BEE where the blacks take all the money and do nothing for it? Try as a white person to get a govt. tender, they are only given to people who are not qualified to do the work and who charge 300% more.

I don't like Mugabe, but I agree with him this time.

Agree, happens in SA as well. Only blacks are getting blamed for the tenders, etc. But whites benefit so much more.

Bob bob bob, Africa has no credibility in the eyes of the global community. You're a has-been despot dictator living in the lap of luxury at the expense of the people you purport to serve. Stop punching above your weight and just DIE already!

Well said Mr President. That does not absolve you from your own issues but the truth is there is selective amnesia when it comes to Western leaders. Riots in France and England is public unrest and in Africa it is violent protest against a despot(so they say)

of course he also forgets to mention that in reverse, that Africa has no credibility in the international arena. Mugabe is nothing more than bullet bait, time someone did us the favor.

Mugabe is right, all that is left now is African countries must quit this ICC thing with immediate effect and Launch their own Aato to fight this Nato thing in future. Viva Mugabe Viva!

If mugabe did not have the blood of hundreds of thousands on his hands, I could side with him. Hi 5th brigade murdered my entire extended family and our entire village - all because we supported another political party. Their bodies were dumped in mass graves. Yes, arrest Bush and Blair, but only after Mugabe.

i am very touched about mugabes words, very true that only african leaders are subject to such court.until such time that the ICC could do the right decisions i wont recognise them either.did bush and tony blair ever found weapons of mass distructions, the answer is no.so many women and children were killed in iraq because of this two men action.why the ICC doesnt prosecute them?if they were african leader today they would be a history.well done mugabe for telling the truth

@tototo - mugabe practices the tactic of attacking anybody or country that shines the spotlight on his attrocities against humanity. for all intents and purposes mugabe has perpetrated countless 'murders' and here i refer to the +5000 matabeles murdered by his 5th brigade and the imprisonment and or slaughter of his political opponents - all done under his hand. there may well be some doubt over the iraq invasion but here one must also look at hussains s(sic) posturing and sabre rattling and his own murder of iraqi opposition for a more complete picture. bear in mind also that the un is representative of all nations that aspire to freedom and democracy (not african style) and the security council oversees world peace - nations that threaten the world peace must be dealt with. in the super-charged environment of world terrorism it may be excusible to act hastily for the wrong reason but right outcome. i'd be happier under the hand of bush and blair than the madmen including mugabe.
