Johannesburg -

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will attend the opening of Lesotho's Parliament, his office said on Thursday.

“SADC facilitator and South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow (Friday) attend the opening of Lesotho Parliament reconvened by His Majesty, King Letsie III,” his spokesman, Ronnie Mamoepa, said in a statement.

“The reconvening of Lesotho's Parliament... comes against the framework of the recently signed Maseru Facilitation Declaration on 2 October 2014 facilitated by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and signed by all Lesotho's political parties.”

The budget and other matters related to the holding of elections would be discussed.

Parliament would be dissolved at the beginning of December so that the country could prepare for national general elections, scheduled for the end of February next year.

While in Lesotho, Ramaphosa as facilitator would be supported by a team of Southern African Development Community experts and members of the secretariat from Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, Mamoepa said.

Ramaphosa arrived in Lesotho on Wednesday and would return to South Africa on Friday, he said. - Sapa
