University students are among people searching mortuaries in Nigeria's central city of Jos for friends missing since twin car bombs killed at least 130 people.

Student leader Dickson Odeh said on Thursday that many corpses are too burned to identify. His group found the bodies of seven students and is looking for others.

Tuesday afternoon's blasts at a bustling marketplace and bus station are blamed on Islamic extremists who abducted nearly 300 schoolgirls they are threatening to sell in slavery.

Many schools around the country closed on Thursday for a one-day protest against the abductions, extremist killings of scores of teachers and general insecurity.

Families of kidnapped girls and their supporters planned to march Thursday afternoon to the presidential villa in Abuja, the capital, to protest the failure to rescue the girls. - Sapa-AP
