Kampala - Nine people were shot dead and 12 injured by a drunken soldier in a brawl over a woman in western Uganda, officials said Sunday.
After going on a shooting spree in a shopping mall in the town of Karugutu, 350km west of the capital, Kampala, late Saturday night, the soldier killed himself, army spokesman Ronald Kakurungu told dpa.
“The soldier had gone to a disco and disagreed with people there over a woman. He then went to the barracks, picked up a gun and shot dead four soldiers and four civilians. One soldier died later. He then shot himself dead,” according to Kakurungu.
The Defence Ministry was giving the victims' families financial compensation, the spokesman added. - Sapa-dpa
