Dar es Salaam - The Global Fund on Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria is to donate $157-million to Tanzania to help fight Aids in the east African nation, the treasury said in a statement on Saturday.

The grant brings to a total of $563-million the funds issued to Tanzania since the Global Fund was established in 2002, the statement said.

Two million people in Tanzania are estimated to be infected with the virus that causes Aids, while malaria claims about 100 000 lives a year, according to health ministry estimates.
