Harare - Poachers have killed two rhino, a cow and her calf, in Zimbabwe's Save Valley Conservancy, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority said on Thursday.

The two had their horns removed, the authority said in a statement.

The killings, thought to have happened on Sunday, were being investigated.

These are the first recorded killings of rhino in the Save Valley Conservancy in 2015. The nearly one million acre park lies in the country's south.

At least five black rhino were poached in the conservancy in 2014, including two calves.

Rhino horn is so valuable on the international illegal market that even the smallest rhino are being targeted, rangers say.

There are fewer than 500 black rhino left in Zimbabwe.
