Kampala, Uganda -
Ugandan officials say they have reopened a strategic border-post with Congo that had been closed during recent fighting between rebels and the Congolese army.
Ugandan Col Felix Kulayigye said the Bunagana post was reopened Monday. It was closed last month after the Congolese government protested that M23 rebels were using it to illegally collect revenue.
The opening of the eastern Congo border-post comes as peace talks between the rebels and the Congolese government began in Uganda. Delegations from M23 and the Congolese government met for the first time Sunday, but it was unclear when substantive talks would begin.
A Ugandan government spokesman said the initial encounter between the two camps was tense, with the rebels accusing the Congolese government of incompetence and of committing atrocities in eastern Congo. - Sapa-AP
