UN leader Ban Ki-moon vowed on Sunday that peacekeepers will stay in the Democratic Republic of Congo city of Goma, which is under threat from rebels believed to be backed by neighbouring Rwanda.
The UN mission “will remain present in Goma and will continue all efforts to robustly implement its mandate to the fullest of its capabilities with regard to the protection of civilians,” Ban's spokesman said in a statement, which added that any action targeting the peacekeepers “will not be tolerated.” - Sapa-AFP
