Accra - President Jacob Zuma arrived in Accra on Monday morning ahead of the inauguration of John Dramani Mahama as president of Ghana, the presidency said.

“President Zuma is accompanied by the Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane,” spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

“He is scheduled to return to South Africa tomorrow, January 8.”

Mahama's National Democratic Congress won the December elections with 50.7 percent of the votes.

Earlier, Maharaj said relations between South Africa and Ghana

were excellent.

“Initially trade between the two countries concentrated on agricultural products, but since 2005 South Africa has begun to export value added manufactured capital goods to Ghana, reflecting the significant presence of SA multinationals in the Ghanaian economy.”

During a private visit to South Africa late in December, Mahama met Zuma at his residence in Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal. - Sapa
