Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma has ordered SA National Defence Force members who had been stationed in the Sudan to be withdrawn, the Presidency said on Wednesday.

Presidency spokesman Bongani Majola said: “President Jacob Zuma has terminated the employment of members of the South African National Defence (SANDF) in Darfur, Sudan.”

This termination is effective from April 1.

Members of the SANDF were employed in Darfur in 2008 as part of the joint African Union and United Nation Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).

“President Zuma has thanked all members of the SANDF for their participation in bringing peace in Darfur,” said Majola.
