Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Friday sent condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the Air Algerie plane crash.

“We also extend our sympathies to the government and the peoples of all other countries whose nationals perished in the crash,” he said in a statement.

The international relations and co-operation department said it had been informed that no South Africans were on board the plane.

According to Agence France-Presse the plane went missing early on Thursday with 116 people on board. It was later found in Mali near the Burkina Faso border.

There were no survivors.
