Boksburg - Another Ford Kuga driver was lucky to escape unharmed after his car went up in flames, this time in the City of Ekurhuleni.

The incident took place on Monday near the N12 east Jet Park off-ramp in Boksburg.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson William Ntladi explained that EMS personnel were called to the scene just before 9am.

"Members arrived to find the vehicle in flames on the side of the road. The driver was not hurt as he managed to get out of the car.

"According to the driver, who was alone at the time, he was driving when he suddenly saw fire come out of his engine."

Ntladi explained that EMS members managed to extinguish the fire before handing over the scene to the Ekurhuleni metro police.

Ford Kuga owners will no doubt be hoping to see and end to the crisis that has seen over 46 1.6-litre turbo-charged Ford Kugas catching fire in South Africa.

Ford SA last week announced that it had kicked off the second phase of its recall campaign, following the initial recall that was announced in January.

The second phase took a bit longer to get into place as it involves fitting the Kuga with a more robust cooling system. Owners of 1.6-litre Ford Kugas built between May 2012 and September 2014 are urged to book their vehicles in for the required repairs. Read more about the recall HERE.
