A cellphone store in La Lucia Mall yesterday evening became the latest mall outlet to be hit in a spate of robberies at KZN malls.

THE MTN store at La Lucia was robbed by three suspects who are believed to have entered the store at about 6pm.

The suspects held up the staff before making off with items, although it’s not clear how much was stolen.

The mall security and SAPS attended the scene, Northglen News reported.

One picture circulated on neighbourhood WhatsApp groups showed a number of products, strewn on the ground, suggesting the robbers had to make a rapid getaway.

Since last January there have been at least 13 robberies at KZN malls, among them Berea Centre, Musgrave Centre, The Workshop, Southway Mall, The Pears Mall, The Atrium, Westwood Mall, Chatsworth Centre, and Gateway.

Yesterday police sent out a statement that one of the kingpins of mall robberies in the province had been arrested in Umlazi along with one of his alleged accomplices.
