Tokyo - Twenty-year-old Japanese eating queen Natsuko Sone won a gorging contest on the northern island of Hokkaido, gobbling two boxes of sea urchins, 500g of salmon roe and crab meat, three squid, 10 scallops and assorted sashimi in 30 minutes, media reports said on Monday.

The eating contest on Sunday also included nearly four litres of rice for each of the ten contestants, with each plate weighing in at about $257 (about R1 530) worth of gourmet food.

Although Sone failed to clear the rice bowls, she won the championship by out-stuffing the other eaters.

She has already won several eating contests featured on Japanese television. - Sapa-dpa
