When masked raiders burst into Rogelio Andaverde’s home and dragged him off at gunpoint, his wife feared the worst.
She did not yet know that the kidnapping was, in fact, an elaborate ruse on his part to get out for a night drinking with his friends.
Now, in trouble with the police and in the dog house at home, it is probably Andaverde, 34, who is fearing the worst.
He walked in the next day and said his captors had decided to let him go. Alas for him, the story did not ring true with police, who had spent five hours interviewing his wife while officers searched for him.
He swiftly confessed that he had arranged for two friends to “kidnap” him because he wanted a night out partying without his wife.
He was thrown into jail in Edinburg, Texas, and charged with making a false report to police before being released on £3 000 bail.
