A Cape Town man has an awful TAIL to tell after he found a dead gecko baked into his bread.
Yusuf Moses, 62, says he sent his daughter’s boyfriend to JP’s tuck shop in Belhar to buy bread.
Luckily, before they started eating it, he spotted the little sliced up lizard in the slices of bread.
Yusuf says his daughter, who had left for work by then, would have made sandwiches with the loaf.
“On Wednesday morning, when I saw the bread was still neatly wrapped and not eaten, I knew something’s not lekker,” he said.
“I saw the (paws) of this black thing and realised it was actually a lizard baked into the bread.
“When I opened the plastic, I saw this really was a little dead animal.
“I was so (angry) because imagine if my pregnant daughter ate the bread? She would’ve gotten sick.
“I immediately went to JP’s tuck shop and showed the shop employer what they were selling.
“When I told them I’m going to the papers, they gave me the bakery’s number.”
Yusuf says he called Kwick Bake Bakery in Bellville South, but did not confront them.
He says he merely confirmed that they had supplied the bread.
Yusuf then approached the Daily Voice with his loaf and caused a stir among curious staff.
The Daily Voice called the bakery and manager Ebrahiem Ebrahiem acknowledged its mistake.
“The lizard could have been in the flour before it was mixed,” he says.
“These things can happen and it is not impossible.
“Sometimes it’s unavoidable, so there is no point in getting upset.” - Daily Voice

It was probably in the baking tin... look how small it is? barely longer than the width of the bread!

Thats nothing new - We used to find cockroaches baked into loaves of bread at our local 711 all the time - this is really not news worthy.

More Gecko Anyone?, wrote
I'm still laughing! The outraged Yussuf and his pregnant daughter! And the tree-huggers! Next thing it will be the ANC's fault...or Zille's. M is correct. Gecko's can be cute. But they can get in almost anywhere and just because they are cute doesn't mean they don't taste good :)

Really? Maybe they should approach SPCA and take 'em out for animal cruelty. Pathetic opportunists. It's a little gecko. They get in everywhere. My cat delivers one to me every morning. What's the issue. "Hey shop keeper, you sold me a loaf and it's got a gecko innit. Can I exchange it, please?" , "Sure thing customer, sorry 'bout that." <-- that was a civilized interaction between two intelligent people. Yusif? You siff.

The food industry is always one to pull a fast one over our eyes. Farmer Brown and his fields of chickens....yeah right. Its a factory where your food is madeprocessed. Watch Food Inc and then get an idea of what these companies do to make your "wholesome" food and don't believe that "organic" lable either. As for the gecko mixed in the flour, I disagree. Surely it would have been in the center of the bread rather on the outside of the bread. It is most likely this gecko was in the oven, or tray when the bread was made but not amongst the ingredients. Wake up people, visit an abbatoir to see what your "fresh meat" goes through before you see it one the shelves. Chicken anyone? I know some "supreme" pultry that would get you going".

The gecko was probably hunting cockroaches in the bread pans! Poor little thing! I think if people went behind the scenes to places where food is manufactured, and saw what goes on there, we'll all be horrified (and a lot thinner)

I tell you, say that to a KZN shopper and see if they won't toast you in your house with that stupid bread and a lizard

Seriously? Why get so upset? If you only knew what the silos looked like that store the flour, or you knew how poisonous all the ingredients were that went into that loaf of bread, the gecko is the least of your worries. Seriously people - considering that humans swallow how many spiders and bugs in their sleep each night, why get so upset about this??? Only thing I am upset about is that a poor gecko died a horrible death here....

if it got in during the mixing process then it would be in pieces and not intact the way it is. That thing got placed there.
