Century City Conference Centre goes solar

A solar energy system has been installed on the roof of the Century City Conference Centre (CCCC), which is expected to cut its carbon emissions by 17% annually.

Split over two roofs, the system has more than 800 photovoltaic panels.

The 260 kilowatt system is expected to produce around 400 000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a year for the centre, which uses more than two megawatt-hours a year.

Gary Koetser, the centre’s joint CEO, said sustainability was fast becoming a non-negotiable in the private sector.

“We have strived to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment and have implemented a number of policies and procedures to this end including water management, waste management and recycling, sustainable food and energy saving.”
