Cape Town - Social media was abuzz on Wednesday afternoon after a brazen robbery attempt in Rondebosch.

Four suspects were arrested following a shootout with the police.

"The swift reaction of Rondebosch police led to the apprehension of four suspects during an attempt to rob a cellular telephone store in a shopping mall in Rondebosch Main Road (Wednesday) afternoon," police spokesperson Andre Traut said.

"Police reacted to a panic alarm activated by the staff of the store and rapidly approached the scene with caution. The robbers shot at police but were quickly outnumbered and four aged in their thirties were arrested.
