Cape Town - A 12-year-old boy is expected to appear in court on Tuesday on a charge of murder after he allegedly stabbed an 11-year-old boy to death.

Little Granville Bosel died at the scene in Strand on Saturday evening. He was stabbed once in the chest shortly after 6pm.

The Nomzamo boy was visiting the Sercor Park area with relatives who were attending a party when he got into a fight with the accused, who lives next door.

Details of what led to the fight are still unclear as police are keeping mum on the motive for the murder.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing are still under investigation.

“The victim, who sustained a stab wound to the chest, died on the scene due to the extent of his injuries,” he said.

“A murder case was opened for investigation and a 12-year-old boy was arrested. He was processed and released into his mother’s care.”

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the accused was expected to appear at the Strand Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Granville, a Grade 5 learner from Danie Ackermann Primary School, was described by his educators as an exemplary student.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with his family during their sad time as they grieve the loss of a unique son,” read a statement on the school’s Facebook site.

“Granville was in every sense an example for his peers and teachers. He was disciplined, hard-working and grabbed every opportunity that came his way.”

The Daily Voice visited his family home on Monday, where his mother Gertrude said she was not ready to speak to the media.
