Durban - Instead of writing his matric exams under the watchful eye of his teachers, a 21-year-old Stanger Secondary School pupil had police looking over his shoulder on Tuesday, before he was arrested for alleged possession of whoonga and dagga.
Police spokesman Vincent Mdunge said the pupil was approached and searched by a police officer around 8.30am while he was making his way to school to write his exams.
The officer found 10 straws of whoonga, as well as dagga in the pupil’s possession.
The pupil who was allowed to write his exam paper, was monitored by police officers as they waited for him to finish the paper.
“The suspect was then arrested and will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court [on Wednesday],” said Mdunge.
He said a case of possession of dagga had been opened and the pupil would remain in police custody until his court appearance.
Education spokesman Muzi Mahlambi, thanked the police for the their efforts.
He warned pupils that they would be severely dealth with if they were involved with drugs.
The principal of Stanger Secondary’s was unwilling to comment on the incident. - The Mercury
