Durban - Three men have been arrested after the hijacking and murder of a Pietermaritzburg woman in her suburban driveway.

Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, confirmed the men were being questioned in connection with the murder of Thokozani Madlala, 51, in Cleland on Wednesday night.

Madlala’s car was found abandoned in a remote area in Hammarsdale early on Thursday.

She had returned to her home in a residential complex at around 8.30pm when she was confronted by two armed attackers.

The victim was parked when she was shot, Zwane said.

The attackers dragged her out of the vehicle and left her bleeding on the driveway before driving off in her car.

Neighbours who heard the commotion called the police and emergency services.

They rushed to Madlala’s aid and tried to administer CPR to the woman as they waited for paramedics to arrive.

ER24 spokesman, Luyanda Majija, said paramedics tried for over 45 minutes to revive Madlala, but she died of her injuries.

A neighbour, Darlene Simmons, said she was shocked and traumatised by what she saw.

“I can’t believe this happened,”she said.

“I saw this defenceless, innocent woman laying there on the cold driveway fighting for her life and I still can’t stop crying.

“That image will remain burned in my memory for the rest of my life,” Simmons said.
