Limpopo - A couple and another man appeared in Nkomazi Magistrate's Court on Tuesday in connection with an incident last month in which a policeman was robbed of his firearm in his house.

Machawe Mncina, 22, is facing charges of robbery while Mxolisi Sayiya, 28, and his wife Charity Nkosi, 25, are being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Mncina was arrested on Monday. He allegedly confessed to attacking the policeman at his house in Schoemansdal on November 29 and making off with his firearm but said the weapon was at Sayiya's house, police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

When police arrived there, he was not home but Nkosi was and after questioning she allegedly handed over the stolen firearm.

On Tuesday, the magistrate released Nkosi on a warning while Sayiya and Mncina were remanded in custody. All three will appear again on January 7, pending further investigation and a formal bail application for Sayiya and Mncina.
