Cape Town - Three women were held up at gunpoint and robbed in their Claremont home on Wednesday morning.

The assailant appeared to have entered the house in Paradise Road via an open window at about 4.45am, police said.

The robber stole two cellphones, two handbags and a laptop. He fled on foot before police arrived at the scene.

By mid-morning, officers of Claremont police station were still at the property, investigating the crime and interviewing the women.

Spokeswoman Captain Angie Lachman said: “These types of housebreaking are not uncommon in the area. Police are working closely with private security companies to get word out as soon as possible after such a robbery. We also secure access points to the area in case the suspect is still in the vicinity.”

In October, Anzunette du Plessis was murdered in her home in Claremont during a robbery. The suspects, carrying objects believed to have been stolen from Du Plessis’s home, were arrested shortly after the incident.
