KwaZulu-Natal - A boy wounded in the Muden shooting has died in hospital, bringing the death toll to seven, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the three-year-old boy died in hospital on Thursday.
Six people were shot dead in their rondavels in Muden, near Greytown, on Saturday morning.
Three others were critically injured and were taken to hospital, Mdunge said.
A four-year old boy had since been discharged, but a 17-year-old youth was still in a critical condition in hospital.
Mdunge said a family was sleeping in separate rondavels when five men armed men with AK-47 assault rifles and handguns attacked them at 3am.
“These men started to raid the rondavels and flat houses (all in the same settlement) room by room.
“In one rondavel, there were four men sleeping; all were killed,” said Mdunge. Two men in other rondavels were also killed.
“They were all adults and brothers. One deceased, however, was a nephew to the family,” said Mdunge.
A man sleeping at the far end of the settlement heard the gunshots.
“He jumped out of the rondavel and escaped without being harmed.”
Mdunge said there were women in some of the houses, including a 90-year-old. They were not harmed.
Nothing was stolen. Police were investigating and no arrests had been made. - Sapa
