KwaZulu-Natal - KwaZulu-Natal police arrested a total of 413 suspects for sex-related crimes during Women’s Month.

Provincial police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said teams had worked on the cases throughout last month in a quest to see that justice was done for victims of rape and sexual offences.

Naicker said 91 cases were finalised, with five life sentences in five cases and a total of 835 years’ imprisonment for all the cases handed down.

“We owe these successful convictions to the dedication and capability of the different family violence, child protection and sexual offences units that investigate crimes involving vulnerable women and children in our province,” he said.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General, Mmamonnye Ngobeni, said: “The sentences handed down will send a clear message to offenders that the police will trace, arrest and successfully prosecute them.” – Daily News
