Six people alleged to be involved in a syndicate which steals wheels were arrested in East London, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.

The men, aged between 32 and 48, were taken into custody at their homes in the Fort Grey and Needs Camp areas, Captain Stephen Marais said.

“East London police started gathering information... in the early hours of the morning, as they have been experiencing several cases reported for the theft of wheels from motor vehicles in the Greenfields and Sunnyridge areas.”

Police recovered nine stolen tyres and their mag rims in Vergenoeg and surrounding areas.

The men would appear in the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday for possession of stolen property. - Sapa
