Nine Chinese men have appeared in the Jagersfontein Magistrate's Court for allegedly trying to rob a fellow Chinese businessman in Luckhoff, in the Free State.

The case was postponed to August 13, Sergeant Vusani Thavhanyedza said on Thursday.

The men, who appeared on Wednesday, were released on bail of R5 000 each and were ordered to surrender their passports.

They were arrested at a supermarket in Luckhoff on Monday at 2pm, while allegedly trying to rob the Chinese owner.

The owner, his wife, and a child were in the shop at the time. The men, aged between 30 and 40, demanded money.

The owner ran away. The men allegedly assaulted his wife, who sustained injuries to her head, face and shoulder. – Sapa
