Cape Town - Anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee has called for an investigation after he was allegedly blocked on Twitter by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Abramjee called the SAPS's decision to block his Twitter account "childish and immature" and asked Police Minister Fikile Mbalula to urgently investigate the matter.

"I suspect I was blocked because I tweet incidents of crime constantly and hold police to account. If anything, the decision to block me will make me even more determined to continue exposing crime, corruption and police inefficiency," Abramjee said.

Abramjee and others also expressed their outrage on Twitter.

Dear @SAPoliceService- So you block me for this tweet I suppose? Your conduct will be reported IPID. @MbalulaFikile pic.twitter.com/HLS65Y7mwZ

@Abramjee @SAPoliceService @MbalulaFikile I'm amazed that this patriot whom supports anti crime initiatives and is a huge supporter of our men and woman in uniform is blocked shocked

You're not the first person to be blocked on Twitter. Why are you so special? https://t.co/spbTLmGZcb
