Pretoria - Prominent advocate Jaap Cilliers was discharged from hospital on Friday, where he had been admitted after being injected with an unknown substance outside court in Pretoria, the hospital said.

An official at the city's Mediclinic Heart Hospital said Cilliers was discharged at 9.15am.

Cilliers was admitted to hospital after being injected with an unknown substance outside the High Court in Pretoria, where he had just concluded a civil case on Wednesday.

A formal complaint had yet to be laid with the SA Police Service, spokeswoman Sergeant Ann Poortman said.

The Star reported on Friday that Judge Legodi Phatudi, who is presiding over the multi-million rand civil case, visited Cilliers late on Wednesday afternoon.

Cilliers' colleague and friend Tokkie van Zyl said he knew little about what had happened.

“I spoke to Jaap this morning [Thursday] and it was going okay with him. I do not really know what happened, other than that he was injected in the buttocks with a substance in the street, after he left the court on Wednesday afternoon. I did not want to ask him too many questions,” he told The Star. - Sapa
